Our church is a far-reaching place to work.
Since 1814, First Presbyterian Church of Nashville has served its local and global community. As the inaugural church of Nashville, our roots are deep, and the span of our reach is broad. Our members and mission have strengthened almost every neighborhood, civic institution, and industry in the Nashville area while serving the broader church internationally. Generation after generation, our membership continually reforms itself to grow more fully into the loving, serving body of Christ.
We are for the glory of God.
Our church has an abiding history of naming what it is for more than what it’s against. We are for Christ, for His kingdom, and for the common good. Our church and workplace is a vitalized community, with Christ at the center, sustained by the work of the Holy Spirit to encourage others in their faith. Imperfect but reconciled by God’s grace, we are called to be the very present children of God in the world, and our church is called to be an outpost-in-the-darkness that’s personal and proximate to a community in need of a loving, holy, sovereign God. With this intentionality, we seek to glorify God in everything we think, say, and do.
Our daily activities are dynamic.
Busy every day of the week, our campus is home to thriving Sunday worship opportunities, large and small Christian education and devotional groups, choir practices and performances, weddings and funerals, an Early Preschool, and an independent elementary school called Oak Hill School. We host the largest recreational soccer league in Nashville — with more than 1,600 children playing soccer in seasonal leagues. We host summer camps, horses for therapeutic riding, pickleball games, Boy Scout and Girl Scout meetings, a splendid music academy, community service projects, social opportunities and events of all sorts, and much more.
Our staff is gifted, hard-working, and dedicated to living meaningful lives.
In the midst of all this thriving activity, we attract and maintain energetic Christians for employment and volunteer service. For posted job opportunities, we seek people who are joyful, productive and collaborative. Each staff member contributes a diverse set of skills and abilities, but collectively, we strive to embody the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Our ministers and staff work hard because we feel an urgency about how to realize “God’s kingdom come” here on these 65 acres in Nashville, Tennessee. To that end, the opportunities and demands set before our ministers and staff are inspiring, challenging, and full of purpose.
Not all our staff are Presbyterian, but we all support the tenets of the Church.
First Presbyterian Church of Nashville is a member of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA), rooted in the Reformed tradition, orthodox and evangelical in our theology. As such, our church is called to be faithful to the apostolic witness of the early church and eager to deepen its understanding of what is true, good, and beautiful as we seek to serve the common good in Jesus’ name. We are an active, welcoming outpost of the larger body of Christ, including all churches of all times and places who profess the saving grace of Jesus Christ, and we offer an open communion table to all who confess Jesus Christ as Lord. Not a body politic, we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and we strive to keep our eyes focused on Him, reforming ourselves daily to His perfect calling for our ministry, for His glory and His glory alone.
